Our Favourties
Burgandy, France - Canal du Nivernais
Originally conceived by Henri IV, the Canal du Nivernais was built between 1783 and 1842, and boasts some of the most glorious scenery on the French waterways. Connecting the Seine to the Loire, the two sides of the summit are very different.
From Corbigny south to Decize on its hill between two arms of the Loire, its old centre still ringed with walls, the descent to the Loire winds through rich meadows grazed by the famous white Nivernais castle. The three successive tunnels at La Colancelle lead to a set of 16 closely spaced locks in a rural setting.
A one-way cruise from Joigny through Chatel-Censoir to Corbigny is superb.
Canal du Midi/Camargue
Cruise in the south of France, a naturally beautiful region where vineyards, castles and charming medieval villages pepper the landscape.
You can choose to cruise to cruise the Canal du Midi west towards Toulouse, east along the Mediterranean coast or south along the Canal de la Robine.
The ancient Midi, with its little humpbacked bridges and distinctive oval locks, continues to cast its spell over travellers as it has done for more than three hundred years.
Listed by UNESCO as a world heritage site, experience all it has to order from the medieval walled city of Carcassonne, to Agde, the 'black pearl of the Mediterranean' and the entrance to the Etang du Thau. » Click here to enquire about our canal cruising charter packages.
