Why Choose a Yacht Charter Holiday in Thailand
We often say that the three T’s are close to the best charter areas because of the people. Turkey, Tonga and Thailand all have some of the most charming and friendly people on the planet!

Stunning stalactite monoliths tower from the water and you never need to dine aboard with a variety of small restaurants and villages ashore. If you have chartered in the Pacific or Mediterranean, the atmosphere in Asia is completely unique. Complete with picture book tropical islands and spectacular coastline.

The Cruising Waters/ Conditions
Most sailing is done in Phanga Bay, which is bounded by the mainland to the East and Phuket Island to the West.

The water at the top of the bay can have poor visibility, with run off from rivers however a little further south the water clarity is exceptional. With 1-2 metres of tide and virtually no current, most charterers anchor off a small village or restaurant at night. For those with more time, it is possible to sail one way to Langkawi or offshore to the remote Similan Islands.

Although the temperature is 28 degrees around the clock, November to March offer the best season with dry weather and offshore north easterly winds. April- October can be worth considering but there will be late afternoon downpours.

Getting There
Jetstar offer direct flights from Sydney to Phuket or Qantas and Thai airways to Bangkok with domestic flight to Phuket. Malaysian via Kuala Lumpur is another transit point to Phuket. The bases on the east coast of Phuket are about 30-45 minute transfers.

Local Cuisine
Thailand is truly a gourmet’s paradise, offering arguably the best Asian food in the world. Natural flavours are brought out by fast cooking, at a great heat with ingredients of beef, pork, especially seafood, vegetables, mushrooms and local fish. The area is well serviced by a variety of inexpensive restaurant, catering to the cruising yachties.

Yachts Available/ Bases
In recent years, Thailand has become an increasing favourite of Europeans and the charter fleets have expanded significantly. Mostly European Beneteaus and Jeanneau’s with Lagoon 380’s, through to 450’s, with generators and air conditioning, which can be helpful in the humid months. Phuket is the main base however there are bases in Koh Samui and Koh Chang on the eastern side of the Peninsular.
