Why Choose a Yacht Charter Holiday in New Caledonia
A favourite of ours! For over 30 years we have cruised this area extensively, but never tire of the natural beauty. The worlds cruising yachts rate these waters as equal to the very best in the Pacific- a huge claim as the Pacific is vast.

A Japanese travel magazine recently rated two beaches on the Isle of Pines number one and six in the world, and the natural beauty and marine life are astounding with the barrier reef recently received world heritage listing as 80% of the world’s corals are found there.

The New Caledonian yacht charter cruising area, known as the Lagoon, is best described as “diverse”, which contrasts the city lights of Noumea; mountainous wooded coastline of the New Caledonia mainland and the idyllic Isle of Pines, an enormous outcrop of coral, almost completely made of limestone. In our Opinion a must see and sail destination for bareboat, skippered or crewed charters.

The Cruising Waters/ Conditions
The whole of New Caledonia is surrounded by a coral reef (approximately 10 miles offshore) which creates one of the world’s largest lagoons.

It is possible to stay within this barrier for most of the circumnavigation of the New Caledonian mainland (some 400 miles long). The usual route is to head south to the legendary Isle of Pines usually anchoring 10’ of crystal clear waters in silicon like sand.

Small Gites and restaurants are ashore to enjoy as you circumnavigate this stunning island. For the adventurous, it is also possible to sail (usually overnight) to the Loyalty Islands North of the mainland.

April to November offer the best sailing conditions, with south-easterly trade winds of 15-20 knots providing excellent sailing conditions, with approximately half metre tidal range and negligible currents.

Getting There
There are direct flights from Melbourne (4hrs), Sydney (3hrs) and Brisbane (2hrs) with Qantas and Air Calin, then a transfer to Noumea, to board your yacht.

Local Cuisine

In New Caledonia, eating is one of the pleasures of life. There are over 130 restaurants in Noumea alone and they offer quality and variety: French traditional, fresh seafood, Chinese, Vietnamese and Japanese, Italian, Craperies, Snack Bars, Bougna (Melanesian feast cooked underground wrapped in banana leaves) are some of the many choices available and yes, there is even a McDonald’s.

Yachts Available/ Bases

First cruising catamarans, such as Catana 42’s and 47’s- well equipped with generator, air-conditioning, water makers and gennaker. A small monohull fleet of; Hanse 400, Dufour 455 and new Oceanis 41’s and Sun Odyssey 509’s, all based in Noumea but able to do one ways to the Isle of Pines and Loyalty Islands.
