Jeanneau Sunloft 47 – Monocat
‘Monocat’ is not a word that even seems possible as a yacht, but the marketing department of Jeanneau have used the word to describe their new concept design in the Sunloft 47.
Perhaps inspired by the galley up catamarans, this design incorporates an open galley on the same level and directly adjacent to the cockpit.
Down below are the cabins (actually six of them, all double with four toilets and showers). Additionally, there is a Skipper’s cabin with separate toilet/shower accessed from the deck in the bow leaving accommodation for 12 plus a Skipper (all in 47 feet!)
The ability to close in the cockpit with easy to use clears, means that the cockpit becomes the main saloon (as there is no room for a main saloon below). The cockpit/saloon has two large tables that convert to sunbeds. Perhaps best chartered in warmer climates and arguably aimed at the younger or eastern European markets who enjoy the value of 12 people sharing a 47’ yacht.
Sail Croatia is an experience rated in the top handful along with Pamplona and the Oktoberfest as the must do’s in Europe for 20-30 somethings and I believe that this design is aimed at these groups who are not insubstantial. While it may not be a boat that will appeal to our main demographic, I do always commend any manufacturer that thinks and designs outside the square.
